OpenAI's ChatGPT Now Builds Mini-Apps for Users
OpenAI announced the release of GPT-6 in ChatGPT, which introduces an 'Intelligent UI' feature. This allows users to build interactive calculators and charts directly in chat conversations. The feature is accessible now to the 1.2 billion weekly users of ChatGPT, including free users. OpenAI has integrated prebuilt UI components like sliders, charts, and forms that the AI can piece together in response to user requests. These tools enable practical interaction within chat responses, such as updating a shopping list based on guest count adjustments when planning a meal.
The update is rolling out in stages: professional and enterprise versions received a more comprehensive model called GPT-6 Sol, while free and basic users gain access to a lighter variant, GPT-6 Luna, starting today. The enhancements focus on improving the user interface specifically within the Chat tab, while other areas like Work and Codex remain unchanged.
For developers and small teams, this means the possibility of offering more interactive solutions without requiring additional development to integrate separate widgets or tools. Users can describe the desired tool to ChatGPT in plain English, and the AI constructs the necessary interface. However, caution is advised with these functions, particularly with number accuracy. OpenAI has not yet provided assurances regarding the precision of calculations, suggesting that users should verify results, much like checking an intern's spreadsheet work.
